red heart yarn review

If you haven’t figured out by now this is the year of self striping and gradient yarns. I think this has always been a thing for indie dyers but some of the bigger brands have finally decided to jump on the bandwagon. From Caron Cakes to Sweet Rolls and lets not forget the Sugarwheels and Mandalas you can pretty much find a self striping yarn at one of the larger craft stores.

Red Heart not wanting to be outdone has also joined the party with their Super Saver Stripes and Super Saver Ombre. I have done a full video review which you can watch below.

First impressions: I knew that I absolutely wanted the Ombre as it was the first attempt I had seen at a larger brand doing a true gradient yarn. I wasn’t as excited about the Stripes until I actually saw them in the store. The Red Heart Stripes colors absolutely amazing! I will say this, it is the Super Saver yarn if you are not a fan of Red Heart Super Saver you may not be a fan of this yarn.

Yarn Facts: Red Heart Super Saver Stripes

  • 100% Acrylic
  • 4 weight
  • Machine Wash/Dry
  • 236 yds
  • Retails for $4.49 online and A.C. Moore Stores
  • Available in 10 colors *note online this yarn is just listed with the Red Heart Super Saver you have to look for the colors that look like this to be sure you are ordering the actual Stripes*

Project ideas: Red Heart has a dedicated page where they are adding project ideas for both the Ombre and the Stripes yarn which you can find here. I would love to see a tote bag done in the Ombre and I have plans for an Amigurumi project with the Stripes.

I would definitely say this is an add to stash yarn for both the Ombre and Stripes. Although I wasn’t super impressed with the Ombre colors the price and project ideas make it a great buy for a gradient yarn. The Stripes colors win hands down they have the best color options out of all the self striping yarns that I have seen and at a great price. If you are concerned about the feel of the yarn its really easy to soften it up so don’t let that stop you from adding it to your stash!

Happy Crafting until next time…

    1. I ordered the RH Ombre in purple to make a mermaid blanket for my daughter Christmas gift. Now you’ve made me want to check out the Stripes.
